AZ Hardcore Metal Interview

Interview with BlindSeven,
September 21, 2004
azhm: Who are you in the band and how long have
you been with BlindSeven?
BlindSeven: Richie Z, Singer, Vocals and occassionally I
play a mean accordion on Polka nite at the Elks Lodge. TK and I started
BlindSeven in 2001, so I would say I've been in since...2001
azhm: What do you believe is the reason that
people don't go to local shows in AZ like they do in L.A or NY?
BlindSeven: More people here are exposed to pretty main stream,
bad radio music. There's no drive to go to see local acts because the
coporate media wants alof of kids to listen to what they want and make
certain bands "popular" leaving out very talented and good bands that
aren't signed. I grew up in NJ and have seen plenty of very good bands
here, it just doesn't get the exposure. They don't promote local acts
unless it's late at nite or after a douche commercial. Plus there's
clubs here that want bands to "prove" they can bring in a crowd by
playing on a Wed nite? Who wants to go on a Wed? Why can't they have
their own crowd?
I really think there needs to be a more postive move towards marketing
the local acts, such as your site is doing AND Metal bands need to start
getting along and help each other out whenever possible. We're on the
same team, so to speak.
azhm: Have you released an album? If so, where do
we get it? How much is it?
BlindSeven: We just released "Incisions" which is available on
our site, www.blindseven.com, for $10. It's also available on
www.cdbaby.com and www.towerrecords.com.
azhm: What methods does BlindSeven have to promote
the band? Do you have a street team?
BlindSeven: We promote through the net, linking to band sites,
flyers, word of mouth, carrier pidgeon, whatever seems to work that
day.. The internet is a great way to promote, as long as you have a good
product, there is always someone out there that will be into it. Look at
Dr. Phil? He's fat and sells diet books...alhtough he has a TV show and
a bunch of housewives with low self esteem watching him...we might
advertise on Dr. Phil now..
We don't have a street team yet but are now taking applications, must
be willing to work for free and not drool too heavily.
azhm: What is the most defining moment for
BlindSeven as a band?
BlindSeven: Releasing this CD, "Incisions" without the help of
any coportate run company.
azhm: What are some long term and some
short term goals that BlindSeven has?
BlindSeven: Our short term goals are to pay the rent, break even
on the CD's..and to meet you..
Our long term goals are to tour. Tour Europe, Canada, Yuma, we don't
care, if there's a Metal crowd out there, we want to play for 'em. It's
time people got to hear metal not what is believed to be metal..(cough)
Linkn' Pork (cough)
azhm: Define BlindSeven in a specific genre within
metal/hardcore classification:
BlindSeven: We are more of a Progressive Metal with a raw edge to
it. Sort of like Dream Theater meets In Flames.
azhm: What is your next "Big Show" and where will
it be held?
BlindSeven: We have several shows coming up:
Oct 9th at the Mason Jar w/ our good friends Trip Lever &
Nov 5th at Bostons w/ our friends Tykkus,
..There are always updates on our site and a sign up form if people
want to be informed of upcoming shows and/or bake sales.

Review by Metal Exiles
http://www.metal-exiles.com/
It has been a long time since I have come across a
spectacular, melodic Christian metal band and now the wait is over for
one as it has arrived in the form of BlindSeven. I found this band on
the Internet and was so blown away by them I had to do something to get
them some exposure so here I am spotlighting their CD on Metal Exiles.
This is a unique brand of melodic metal in that it takes melodic,
emotional vox, melodic but at times crushing guitars and just the little
intricacies that are interwoven throughout the music. The production is
unreal as it was done in the simplest manner and done at a home studio
while it sounds like it was done 100% pro at a full studio, it sounds
that great. The songs are full, heavy and totally in your face, the
hallmark of a great production. As far as the sound, like I said above,
this is pure melodic rock with some incredible riffs and very melodic
singing. Imagine if you will Frank DiMino of Angel singing in a heavier
style and you will have Richie Z, their lead vocalist. Thomas Mount is
an excellent guitarist and he has an unreal way of blending riffs and
leads to create pure magic and Chris Zilar is just a perfect drummer
that really drives the music, just an incredible trio. This is a nine
track CD and I cannot find a bad song on this disc period. From the
opening crush of Broke DOWN The Walls to the sweet/sad ballad Carrying
On to the strait up Breaking Glass, this CD has everything you could
ever want in a Christian melodic metal CD and even if you are not into
the Christian message, you will still love what this has to offer. To
check out the band more go to www.blindseven.com. This CD gets a pure
10.

Blind Seven is a five piece American band
formed by Richie Z (vocals) and guitar player TK Mount in January 2001.
Actually started as side project but unfortunately broke up later on.
Both mentioned guys doesn't wanna gave up playing their favourite style
of music and found a new drummer by the name of Chris Zitar. Californian
based label Jetspeed Record offered the band a deal in June 2001, even
all the songs were recorded but without results actually. The album
never saw the light of day due some internal problems regarding the
contract but anyway...Blind Seven kept going on and Richie, TK, Chris's
faith was strong enough so they were sure that one day a debut album
would be released.
Finally in April of
2004, they were proud presented a full length album, totally done by
themselves. To complete the line up, a second guitar player Mitch Vance
and a bassist named Aubrey Ridgeway recently joined the ranks of Blind
Seven. They've already shared the stages so far with bands like: Sacred
Reich, Joey Beladonna, Flotsam and Jetsam, Motörhead,...so there they
go. Now what the expect from these guys is a perfect mix of Hard Rock
and Metal music with vibes and atmospheric parts coming straight out of
the world of Progressive Metal. Yeah, Blind Seven sounds pretty
technical and great skilled which means these guys have qualities enough
to talk about a marvellous band with potential.
In my eyes, Blind
Seven's style of music is quite original and unique in its genre.
They're spreading a lot of emotion especially due to the vocalist's way
of singing. His voice sounds nice and gentle at one side and real
powerful at the other side. While listening to the entire album,
Megadeth's Dave Mustaine lingers on somtimes. "Incisions" is an album,
full of surprises and with variable elements all over the line. Melodic,
heavy guitars with stamping drums, loaded bass lines and a unique singer
who has a wide range in his might!
I'm into Blind Seven's
style of music, a few moments i don't like at all but an album with a
hundred procent satisfaction feel is not that easy to find these days so
i will not start criticizing Blind Seven for a few disappointed moments.
Hard Rock / Metal maniacs and Progressive Rock fans...check it out !

BLIND SEVEN ‘INCISIONS’ (INDEPENDENT)
Out of Arizona, USA comes the Christian Melodic Metalband BLIND SEVEN.
This band is mixing classic 80s Melodic Metal of STRYPER and SKID ROW
with more modern groovy sounds, but happily the melodic sound wins in
the end, and so we can enjoy some quality music during the 50 minutes
the CD is playing. 9 songs are included, and what strikes me is the fact
that BLIND SEVEN has a very good lead singer called RICHIE Z, who sounds
like Michael Sweet (of STRYPER). First song “Broke down the walls” has a
very groovy heavy modern guitarsound, but the song itself is still a
great melodic metaltune, with a strong chorus. The CD continues in this
style, with as other highlights “Carrying on”, “Breaking glass” and “7
yrs.” (a bit like DREAM THEATER). Imagine a mix between SKID ROW,
STRYPER and TALISMAN, and you’re close to the groovy Melodic Hardrock/Metal
sound of BLIND SEVEN. More info at: http://www.blindseven.com

BLINDSEVEN. Band blends things with (from) a bit of heavy metal like
megadeth, (to) more melodic tones (like) SKID ROW. But it is this sharp
thing more (which do you like more). Curious (different), pompous
(aggressive), but curious.
